Celebrating the spirit of international collaboration through Winston-Salem’s partnerships with her sister cities across the world.
Nassau, Bahamas - The capital city of the Bahamas archipelago, Nassau has been a sister city since 2006, with efforts focused on business and healthcare. Though not formally included on some lists, Freeport, Bahamas also maintains a cooperative relationship with Winston.
Shanghai (Yangpu), China - As a prosperous commercial/financial center, Shanghai (Yangpu district) has been a sister city since 2006. Yangpu has two notable universities and borders the Huanpu River. Partner programs focus on arts and student exchange.

Kumasi, Ghana - In 2001, this African city of nearly 3 million people was formalized as a sister city to Winston, and partnership efforts since then have focused on business opportunities in textiles and furniture to help develop the Kumasi economy.
